Vicky Hartzler assumed office as United States Representative for Missouri’s 4th Congressional District in January 2011.
Hartzler was born October 13, 1960, in Cass County, Missouri, and was raised on a farm near Archie, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1983 and received her M.S. in education from Central Missouri State University (now the University of Central Missouri) in 1992.
Prior to serving in the United States House of Representatives, Hartzler taught family and consumer sciences for eleven years in Lebanon and Belton, Missouri. From 1995 to 2000, Hartzler served as a Missouri State Representative for Missouri’s 124th District. In 2005, she was appointed the chair of Missouri’s Women’s Council, a position she held for two years. She has also been a member of the Cass County Republican Central Committee since 1990.
