Women Profiles

One of the key features of this archive is to provide a profile for each of the women for whom we have speeches. The purpose of the profile is to give some context to each woman whose speeches are included in the archive. These profiles highlight each woman's role when the speech was given and provide a background of her life and additional information that might better help a researcher more thoroughly understand the remarks that were made. Our primary source for gathering profiles is through each woman's official website; however, some profiles have been provided to us by the woman who made the speech. The Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics makes every effort to keep the profiles up - to - date. If you notice an error, please contact us so that we can make the appropriate corrections. Just like the speeches included on this website, the wording of the profile submitted has not been changed. However, we occasionally have to reformat the text of the speech or profile due to errors that occur when downloading or scanning speeches.

Currently, our focus is on elected women officials in the United States. As our site continues to grow, we will expand to include the speeches of women activists, international women political leaders, and historical women. Our staff is working to gather speeches and profiles from every woman elected to the U.S. Congress, governor and lieutenant governor. Some women have chosen not to participate in this archive and others who are newly elected may not yet have speeches to provide. Please feel free to contact us if there is a woman we have missed in our collection. Continue to check back regularly as we are constantly updating this site.
